What is actually there
The hill carries fortification walls and a church rather than a fully furnished castle. It is the setting and the view, more than preserved interiors, that people come for.
- Historic defensive walls along the ridge
- A church within the fortification area
- Panoramas over the river and Old Tbilisi
- A ridge that links towards other Old Town sights
How to get up
The two realistic options are the aerial cable car from Rike Park, near the Bridge of Peace, or the walk up through the Old Town streets and steps.
Paths, steps and any entry arrangements can change with weather and works. Treat walking estimates as guidance and check the ground on the day.
Practical points
- Wear shoes with grip — the slopes and steps are uneven.
- Late afternoon gives softer light and cooler air than midday.
- Expect wind and exposure on the ridge.
- Combine it with the cable car and a walk down through the Old Town.
