Where restaurants cluster
Almost all the restaurants within easy walking distance of the bridge sit on the Old Town side, in a compact grid of streets that runs uphill from the river.
- Erekle II Street, the pedestrian lane that meets the bridge entrance
- Shardeni Street and the lanes around Sioni Cathedral
- Abanotubani, the bath district just south of the bridge
- The Rike Park and Avlabari side on the left bank
How to choose a place
Menus are usually posted outside, and many kitchens cook Georgian classics as well as a few international dishes. It is worth checking a couple of places before sitting down.
- Look at the menu and prices at the door before committing.
- Decide whether you want a quick meal or a long sit-down evening.
- Ask about portion sizes, as Georgian plates are often generous.
Prices and opening hours change with the season and the day. Verify them on the day rather than relying on any fixed listing.
Practical points
- Lunch is often the quieter meal; dinner runs later than in much of Western Europe.
- Walk-up lanes are steep in places, so wear comfortable shoes.
- Many places take cards, but it is sensible to carry some cash.
