Daylight: the structure reads clearly
In daylight you can follow the wavy canopy and the white-steel lattice that makes the bridge recognisable from a distance. Reflections on the glass and the contrast with the Old Town rooftops are easiest to see in flat, even light.
Sunset and blue hour: colour and contrast
Around sunset the sky and the river change quickly, and the bridge sits between warm and cool tones. Light changes minute by minute, so arrive early rather than trying to catch the exact moment.
Sunset times shift through the year. Use a current local sunrise-and-sunset figure for the date you are travelling.
After dark: when the lighting matters
The structure’s lighting is the reason many people wait until evening. An evening view depends on the lighting being on and on the conditions that night; the historical lighting design is not a promise of a particular show or switch-on time.
- Check weather before committing to an evening walk.
- Expect more people in the evening than at midday.
- Plan your return route at the same time you plan the visit.
